About Me

I took my first international backpacking trip in 2017.  I had no idea my life would change forever.  The seed was planted, but I was stuck working my normal 9-5 job back in the USA.

I decided on Costa Rica because of the surf, sun, and warm tropical water that would be a refreshing change to the frigid waters of Northern California.  It was set to be a two week trip that turned into a two month stay across Costa Rica.

Little did I know that this first trip was just the start of an annual pilgrimage to Central and South America over the next 5 years.  It turned into the highlight of each year and I never wanted to come home.

I started by taking at least one trip every year down to places like Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras, and Colombia.  These quick trips barley kept me satisfied as I still had to return home to California every season to work my normal job as a teacher and colligate volleyball coach.

I loved my job teaching and coaching, but there was something else out there for me.  Something I was searching for, something that I needed to feel complete.  I am still on that search.

I have now decided enough is enough, and it's time to travel!  

I have launched my website, built an audience, and took new risks that I never thought I would take.

Fast forward to today, and that is probably how you found the Destinations with Dane website.  After that first trip in 2017, I was hooked, I took the bait, and I wanted to learn everything I could about life in Central and South America.

This website will host some of my best travel adventures, current worldwide travel updates, new travel opportunities, progress on my travel writing journey, and much more.
